It's very simple... would you work 18 to 20 hour days for Free and if so, how long do you think you could do it?  I am 100% sure your boss would love you to walk into his office and say; "Please! I love working here, I love what I do so much! I don't want you to pay me!" Haha! I am sure it would make your boss' day!

Well for years, that's exactly what I said and I turned down envelopes and whatever was in someone's palm. I paid for everything out of our own pocket but, as a single income family... Well it's just not feasible, I could not continue to buy equipment, pay for gas, wear and tear (& upkeep) on my vehicle, and keep going out for days and weeks at a time, when/if necessary.

My thought was, I just couldn't take money from people because I felt they were already in a bad way with their family fur-baby missing and the reward of that lick to the face and the tears of joy as you placed what was lost to them, back into their arms... well there is no dollar amount that can even remotely come close to that! But, realistically, without financial support, I couldn't keep going and sometimes I had to do what I could over the phone and/or through social media. Sadly, there are still times when I have to say, I can only help you over the phone or social media, but, I don't tell them it is due to finances.

 

Some things in the past few months have changed my perspective on what I do, the why for me has always been the same. As recent as the End of Sept 2018, I thought I was going to have to close up shop, sell the traps and call it a "Great Ride" for the past 8 years.

People Appreciate what they pay for more and the contract that goes with it. 

There are services that will track a lost dog with another dog and they will give you tips, tell you a direction etc.. but, they don't actually track or trap the lost dog.
 

I do eat cheap when I am out there, protein bars, individual apple sauce servings or fresh fruit like pears and apples, can go a long way. And the occasional Veggie Wrap or a Bagel with Cream Cheese for $5 can go a long way lol! 

But, there came a day that it all changed financially... and a trap I hoped to one day have, was no longer a dream.

The Magical "Harry Houdini"... Now you see me, now you don't Pup

There was a pup that changed everything, when a sweet lady came to my home to pick up a Rescue pup that was on the run for 6 days, dragging a leash. I basically slept in my vehicle, my family ate pizza and fast food because I wanted that pup safe! During the times I was out there, I would talk with her on the phone and in one of those convos, I shared that I wanted to build a trap like one of my fellow trackers had.  She had loaned it to me once and it was the Cadillac of Traps! but, the expense to make one of these... well it would take me a year of saving to even get rolling.  When she came to pick him up, she presented me with a cheque and said "We want you to build that trap you talked about and if you can, designate it as The Harry Houdini Trap that would be great!"  I won't lie to you, I stood in my kitchen and cried.  Then I got busy and over the next few months, I became the proud owner of one of those Cadillac of traps, with an engraved plaque on the door that reads, exactly that.

FEE STRUCTURE

 

K9 Tracker S&R is a Sole Proprietorship with Contracts 

On average, to secure a lost dog is approximately 3 days (based on 16-20 or even 30 hour days/shifts), dogs do not go missing on a 9 to 5 basis and that means, around the clock availability. The base fees are $100.00 per day for my services and $200.00 covers expenses such as; Gas, Batteries, Baits, use of Traps, Surveillance equipment etc... And know this, if something breaks, the dog bites and destroys something like a Snappy Snare, the Client does NOT pay for that, that is what the Fees cover!

 

If the dog is secured on day one (1), the client can expect a portion of a refund*. If the search and rescue takes more than the initial three (3) day period, there are no additional fees. If the pet is secured by an other Individual or Animal Control on the first day of the Search and Rescue, the client will receive a partial refund*, same as the securing on the first day. *More Details during initial Interview.

 

Will I turn away people looking for help?  Absolutely not! I will still do what I can do when I can for anyone that reaches out with a lost pet but, it will be limited and conditional.

Many times I can give people all the information that they can secure their own lost pet, specifically Cats. And if a person's dog has wandered off the property, you probably won't need a Tracker to get them back home. You just need guidance where to look and what to do.  I will send you a FREE Tutorial with List of Supplies so you can make your own posters and if I have the time available, I will give you a Poster Picture (for free) of your missing pet to assist you.

 

 

 

A WORD ON CATS

Lost/Missing Cats must be Micro-chipped.  It is an owner's nightmare to try to recover a lost/missing cat if it is in the possession of an individual.  Pets under Ontario Laws are Property but, in order to have a clear cut case of ownership, pictures and veterinarian bills are simply not enough.

I have personally been involved with cases where the cat is not microchipped and the process through the court system can be draining with no guarantee of getting the pet back.

A Master Sheet will be provided to you, so you can print more as needed, as well as a picture Tutorial with a Supply List on how to put up your posters to get the best results and have them last!
